I climbed a volcano (Mt. Etna, in Sicily) when it was erupting (it was a basaltic volcano so it wasn’t explosive), and collected some brand new rock that had only just cooled. Any one can find very old rock, but to have a BRAND NEW piece of the planet, that was pretty cool.

It was nearly 10,000 feet high so it was getting hard to breath, and the air smelled of sulphur from the volcanic gas, and we actually got to see lava! That was v.exciting!
