      Ok, cool, right in the engine there is tubes these tubes are more commonly called the cylinder. inside the the cylinder a piston is placed the pistons job is to work like a plunger in a syringe. When fuel explodes at the top of the cylinder gas is pushed onto the top of the piston, however to stop gas escaping down the sides of the piston 2 or 3 rings are placed in small grooves on the piston, these rings seal the cylinder making sure no gas escapes and no power is lost.
