Thats a hard question as I think that there are so many talented people in science! I think I would have to say Michael Faraday, as he was not formally educated but made a massive contribution to not just physics but chemistry too!
Often the scientists who have the most impact are not very famous such as Silver Spencer who invented the glue for post-it notes by accidentally making a useless glue which turned out to be perfect for making things stick temporarily.
Yes I agree a very hard question, one of my favourite scientists has got to be Leonardo da Vinci, he has been said to be the one of the best scientists of all time as he made major contributions to nearly all subjects. But to be fair there is also people like Newton who did lots of work on gravity; this question is so are to answer because there is just so many out there.
Im Biased and would say Immunology/Biomed scientist, probably Edward Jenner or Alexander Flemming. Most of us are alive today thanks to Vaccination and the irradication of small pox and the discovery of antibiotics
But yet, all science (as long it it is performed well and to a high standard) is as equal as another! 🙂
