Favourite Thing: I love studying computers as if they were creatures, understanding how they work so that I can make peoples lives better. I love making experiments and getting excited about it, especially when I don’t know what the results are going to be! Also some of my experiments have been looking at how people behave on rollercoasters. This is awesome as I got to ride tons of cool rides to get my data :D I use the same systems to study people playing computer games, so i get to do gaming at work!

Me and my work

I make programs based on the human immune system’s behaviour to detect computer hackers, and use the same system to classify the emotions of people.

My Typical Day

I run experiments to collect data, write programs to analyse the data, teach students computer science and drink lots of coffee.

What I'd do with the money

I want to run internet safety classes for 13-15 year olds in Nottinghamshire, so we can all stay safe online.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Fun, Geeky, Musical :)

Who is your favourite singer or band?

At the minute, Lady Gaga, but I also like Pendulum.

What is the most fun thing you've done?

White water rafting and snowboarding in the Rocky Mountains in the USA.

If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!

To be taller (all my friends call me short), to play with a band on the main stage at the Glastonbury Festival, and to be the 12th Doctor in Doctor Who.

What did you want to be after you left school?

I wanted to be a rock star of course, and if not that then a scientist doing funky science :D

Were you ever in trouble in at school?

I was sometimes late with my homework because I was always out on an evening playing with bands and orchestras!!

What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?

Gave a talk for the Royal institution (the dudes who do the christmas lectures) on what it means to be a girl in computer science

Tell us a joke.

Why did the computer cross the road? Because the chicken programmed it to! (sorry, its lame I know!!). What’s brown and sticky? A stick! Is that better?
